TAI CHI - Cherry Hill

| | Winter 2009 (Nov. 24. 2009. - Feb. 9. 2010.) | 2010 Spring I Session (Feb. 16. 2010. - April 20. 2010.)

Mr. Ma Tai Chi Book & Video Tape | Registration Form

Tai Chi Chuan (grand ultimate fist) began as, and still is, a formidable martial art; however, it is more than that. It's also a non-competitive exercise (tai chi) that is beneficial to good health. Done properly, it can have a calming effect on both the body and mind. It can improve your ability to synchronize your movements, enabling you to move with more grace and confidence. It can improve your physical balance, reduce your blood pressure, improve your concentration and visual memory, and increase your endurance and vitality. And, unlike many Western exercises, tai chi is an exercise that can benefit you even if you're in your 70s, 80s, or older. It's even an exercise that children can learn to do.

In a few months, the Mr. Ma Tai Chi School will begin offering a new instructional program. Called the Tai Chi for Wellness & Fitness Program, it will offer high quality instruction in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Student involvement and interaction will be emphasized. Much of its instruction will center around feedback, both feedback instructors give to students, and feedback students give to each other during focused exercises. Correct feedback, frequently given, can make a unique difference in how well you benefit from tai chi instruction.

The program will be developed and directed by Dr. Howard Rosenberg, who has a Ph.D. in Education, 10 years teaching experience, and three years experience as a school district administrator. He's especially experienced at developing effective training programs and has applied his skills to developing a unique tai chi training program.

He began studying tai chi in the mid-1970's. In the 1990's he began studying with Mr. Ma. He's co-authored with Mr. Ma the book, Tai Chi Ch'uan 24 Forms for Curious Learners. In addition to practicing and teaching tai chi, he practices and teaches the 18 Exercises of Taiji Qigong, which he learned from its creator, He Weiqi, Shaolin Chi Kung, and mindfulness meditation.

The program's core will be its Yang Style 24 Forms training courses. 24 Forms is the most popular style in the world (millions do it) and is an excellent form to learn first whether you just want to learn to do one form or want to continue to learn other tai chi forms. The prerequisite for the 24 Forms program will be our Introductory Workshop, which will be the first course offered. In it you will learn the 18 Exercises of Taiji Qigong. They're both an excellent set of exercises in themselves and a superb warm-up for tai chi practice. In addition, you will be introduced to both mindfulness training and standing meditation. Just by standing still in a specific way you can gain health benefits!
