FASJ HISTORY AND HIGHLIGHTS
The Fencing Academy of South Jersey was founded in May, 1994 by Andy Ma. Our mission is to promote the art/sport of fencing in the South Jersey area with a commitment to developing excellence in accordance with each individual s ability.
Our programs are designed for both recreational as well as competitive students. Classes are offered for children and adults, men and women, beginners to Olympic levels. Age categories include 6-8 year-olds, 9-13 year-olds, 14-18 year-olds and 18 & over. Currently, our youngest fencer is 6 years old and the oldest fencer is 84 years old. Within each age category, there are different program levels, Levels I - IV.
Among some of its achievements, FASJ has produced one World Champion, four U.S. National Champions and seven U.S. World Championship Team Members. More than thirty FASJ students have been accepted into major universities, including Ivy League. Many of our athletes have received scholarships from their universities for fencing.
As part of its commitment to developing excellence, FASJ holds three ten-day fencing camps every year. The first is at the end of June in preparation for the Summer National Championships; the second is at the end of August just before the beginning of the new season; and the third is mid-winter just after Christmas.
One of the many highlights of the FASJ season is the "Mr. Ma Cup" This is an annual tournament which has grown in popularity since 1994. More than 500 fencers participated in the 2005 Mr. Ma Cup, most coming from all over the U.S., with others coming from Canada and Europe.
Complete information and details pertaining to all of the FASJ programs may be found on the club website.
